Thor: The Dark World - HD Trailer + Commentary

Thy eyes shall be smitten with a visual assaulting!
I'm gonna try to make this as much like BY's last Superman post. I'll start the breakdown but he'll probably do it better later today.

Play-by-Play Commentary (Now with special guest)
FR= Fiction is Real      BY=BY

FR- (0:00) Ominous thunder clap with city scape (queue birds flying away)
BY- (0:09) Birds flying across the street... is this film directed by John Woo?... (went to check director)... nevermind then.
FR- (0:12) Ominous sigh, followed by intense magic trick queue Levitating truck. Odin voice over of explaining the universe according to Norse Gods.
FR- (0:23) Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is that you?
BY: Natalie Portman? I am sold... how soon can I preorder my ticket?
FR- (0:25) The first glimpse of our movie's villain.
FR- (0:29) The main villains epic bad ass ship. Followed by things exploding and people running in fear.
FR- (0:30) Standard Marvel Scroll opening and Music change to something less solemn and more racy with a synthesized bass track.
BY- (0.34) Ooo cool little thing they did with making the red of the Marvel Logo turn into a cape... I am obviously easily amused.
FR- (0:35) YAY finally after 30 seconds of intense stuff...reading this makes this seem even more long. None the less a new outfit thor seems to be wearing. Slightly shinier and more sleek boots.
BY- Things do look sleeker.. and the mood and filter looks darker... like every sequel tends to be. (oh wait, the sub-title is "Dark World.. so I guess it's obligated to be darker)
BY- (0:39) 2nd glimpse of Natalie Portman... seriously, how soon can I give my money?
BY- (0:48) Whoa whoa whoa! How does Thor now have to the power to travel between realms?... oh wait.. is bifrost fixed? BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS... Natalie Portman in Asgard means more Natalie Portman (psst... I have a confession... I have an infatuation with Natalie Portman)
BY: For some reason, this scene makes me wish for a Marvel version of Super Smash Bros. Please let that be a possibility.
BY: (1:13) What is it with these comic book movies and Avatar? First Superman and now this?
BY- (1:40) So this is the 3rd film with Loki, and hopefully not as the villain, or else shame on him. If he were, he'd be the Wile-E-Coyote of the Marvel Universe.
BY- (1:43) The last line by Loki was "When do we start"... cue release date "November 2013". Clever Clever Marvel.

Final Comments:
BY- Looks like the tone is darker (hence The Dark World), and there will be more powered up Thor rather than civilian Thor, which is cool. This also looks like the movie will be mostly away from Earth, which is a nice welcome change which does nicely set up the future movies (ie. Guardians of the Galaxy). Good start but it was a very typical trailer and did not get me as pumped up as any of the Man of Steel trailer did.

Thor Hammer & helmet Sideshow Archive set

Thor Archive Set Hammer & Helmet by Sideshow Collectibles

What is an archive set? That was my first question about 6-7 years ago when I first heard about these. Basically it's a pure display piece (in every sense of the word)  it captures everything to do with the character without the character. For me it is pretty awesome because you get to see the weapons up close. What makes the hero or villain you can literally hold in your hand.
The sideshow pieces are made to a 1/4 scale meaning perfect for you budget and small enough to save you a ton of space instead of dealing with super large life size prop replicas. First of the detail is fantastic the amount of time and effort to design and mass produce these is unheard of. I'll let the pictures explain, down to business. I'm Going to do a reverse order this time bring the suspense to the front instead of making you all wait. Let me know if you like this method better.

The Goods What you care about:
The Archive set (the piece): The paint job is stunning, the piece looks like it's straight out of Thor's Asgarian utility room. The wood display is not actually wood, the paint job makes it look so real. As well the base isn't stone, both the base and the wood display are made out of polystone and probably metal on the inside to make the frame. The stone base has rune like markings on each side with the classic Thor logo on the front (even the shading is done in the paint job). The hammer (Mjolnir) is heavy the entire piece is made out of solid metal (probably weighs about 1lb) with the handle wrapped in leather (just like the comics). His winged helmet is also made out of solid metal (probably about 1/2 pound) with an awesome silver sparkle flecked paint job and hand painted feathers. Each then mount on to the wood display part (the winged helmet mounts with a peg in the middle and the hammer just rest on the 2 horizontal dragon looking pegs.

Sideshow Thor Archive Hammer and Winged Helmet Front view, Side view, Back View and the under side Numbered edition

The Winged Helmet and Hammer (Mjolnir): the up close look at both the winged helmet and hammer reveals an amazing amount of detail given to each individual piece. Quality control must have been really strict. I'm more amazed at the helmet than the hammer due to the fact that the detail required to pull off the helmet was actually thoughtfully designed and then exceptionally executed. Sideshow didn't just have the feathers painted, they had them machine stamped into metal and then hand painted. They did that on the outward and inward facing parts of the helmet. The Hammer WOW a solid piece of metal with a textured paint pattern and to top it off, the embossed inscription of what it takes to wield Thor's hammer (Mjolnir). The leather wrapped handle looks great as well the little detail at the bottom of the handle. Sideshow there's really no one out there that comes close to your attention to detail and price point.
Thor's Hammer and Helmet up close. You can see the detail and the quality of workmanship

The 4 Colour Box: looks great and really shows off the piece. Even before opening and seeing the piece you know what you are getting into. The excitement just grows from there.

Styrofoam Packing
The Styrofoam: Packed well and to save space this piece should save you a bit on shipping but the weight alone will probably make that saving negligible. Trust me though the weight is what makes this piece ever penny.

The Verdict: the fully metal pieces, life like wood and stone base give this the look of fiction really becoming reality. Get you hands on one of these comic fans, especially you Thor guys. You won't regret it.

THOR 2011 MOVIE in ULTRAavx Review... It was Thunderous :)

Hi guys and gals
Well here's the first attempt at a movie review. "I need a HORSE..."
Make sure you stay till the end for the added bonus features.
So we ended watching the movie in the cineplex ULTRAAVX theater, it was an extra $5 on top of the movie price. Thank goodness it was a Tuesday. Did you know they still do a half price Tuesday in Canada?
What's UltraAVX, AVX stands for audio video experience. So the screen goes from wall to wall in all directions, you get 7.1 Dolby digital surround sound and a bass that shacks the seating literally. I thought the bass was a little overboard and doesn't ad much to the movie experience. The screen didn't either, NEITHER DID THE 3D.
Thank goodness Thor was a good movie.
Overall they did the best they could with the Thor character. Costumes, dialogue and acting was well done. Humor was great. This was a great movie especially if you can get a good seat at a theater without 3D and ULTRAAVX, (you'll feel much better knowing you spent less and are getting so much more) The description from the movie sales person doesn't do it much justice. "It's about a Norse God that gets stranded on Earth".
This is a definite go and see not just for comic book fans but for all. Visuals are great even the magic and crazy Thor hammer swinging is impressive, not the cheesy at all. Nothing to complain about.

For the Comic fans. Hawkeye made an appearance in this movie, probably not like most would expect. Also COSMIC CUBE where could they be going with this.... I smell AVENGERS MOVIE main plot.

Avoid the 3D and UltraAVX, you're better off without, maybe even use the savings to buy popcorn for your date. YUP it's that kind of superhero movie, it's date-worthy

Well that's it for now. Hope you like the review.

Thor Official Trailer 1

Well the first trailer for the Thor movie has finally been released... and it looks good. From paramount studios and Marvel they have done a good job. If you watched the after credits extras of Iron Man 2 you would have seen the sneek peak of Thor's hammer in Mexico.
My only question is where's the winged helmet? I spotted a glimpse but it seems they want to just push that to the back and lets Chris Hemsworth hair shine out. Also the story has been written by J. Michael Straczynski which is a real bonus. Enjoy and keep your eyes peeled for the big Thor hammer review coming soon.
